Well... I'm thinking of a world in which people live in islands. The magical beast that I could think about right now is two legged MASSIVE elephant :D rather than mages, witches, wizards, I'd rather have element benders and mermaid because why not ¯\(ツ)/¯ on top of that, I love the idea of different islands having completely different living situation. Say, this one island is inhabited by people who could live for 1000++ years, while on the other island, people live just like any other regular human you'd know, but they have extreme intelligence that led them to be able to manipulate their terrains and what not, including gene modification--cough, the two legged abomination cosplaying as an elephant mentioned earlier, cough--and so on.
