He's only canonically asexual in the 2015 comic, which I don't consider as part of the main Archie series. My personal headcanon is that he doesn't like the idea of dating because he sees how bad it is for Archie and also because of trauma from when he was forced to be in a romantic relationship with a girl in order to "get the gay out of him"
