I can only speculate why girls 'would' lie, I don't think all girls 'do' lie. I'd guess its to prevent creepy people from hitting on them, their parents to give them a break from 'single pressure' or potentially lying to their family to protect their sexuality (be it, Bi, Lesbian or Asexual).
