Is there any movie(s) you feel are underated and deserve recognition?
Treasure Planet and Atlantis the Lost Empire are both some treasures from the end of Disney’s 2d animation era that were both kinda box office bombs. I also personally enjoy The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen even though that was another box office bomb.
Generally like the more disliked Star Trek movies too. TMP is gorgeous and a very Star Trek story. Search for Spock is also great and introduced us to some ships that would endure for a very long time in the franchise’s production. I need to revisit Final Frontier as I suspect that in my current more mellow state I’d be able to appreciate the good parts of that.
Also enjoy the much maligned later TNG movies, but this is getting a bit long.
If not a meerkat, what other species would your sona be?
There’s a few options I’ve thought of
The first I can think of is a squirrel, kinda similar weird little guy vibes, very energetic which tracks well with the adhd, (especially if I consider my younger self lol) still do some digging… Squirrel definitely could fit
Coyotes have some neat desert vibes and while not even first or second choice of an alternative, they do look neat and have some neat vibes, and the big triangle ears are admittedly fun. Probably my choice if I had to go with a canine species
A hummingbird has been considered as a sort of way to explore some of the challenges of being diabetic. Having to closely monitor my blood glucose levels and carry food and sugar supplies in case that drops too low has been described to me as “you’re like a hummingbird” so if I ever wanted one as like an educational tool or something for explaining my type 1 diabetic experience, that could be useful. (Especially since my meerkat sona has been described specifically as not diabetic)
Special mention to alpine goats and border collies as those are probably the best match of my genetic heritage of “all of Western Europe tossed in a blender”
What is your favourite film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy?
Day by day im gonna take small bites out of your drywall. Prepare.
Why did you choose archeology?
Inquiring wolf wants to know🐺
As a kid I’d always thought it was a neat subject, saw some neat documentaries, and of course Indiana Jones, and also Captain Picard having that as a hobby too. But I originally didn’t think of archaeology as something I could do until I took a few archaeology courses in college and found out that “hey, I could do this too!” So changed majors and am now doing field work’
What’s your favorite thing to do if you have free time and stuff
the Raccoon that speaksA few things, depending on mood and time available and such. Play games a lot, sometimes watch or listen to a show I like, (especially sci-fi) sometimes read something or go down a rabbit hole looking something up. Sometimes a hike if I have time to plan it out. Occasionally go camping (though I haven’t done that only for fun in a while)
What is your favourite alien(s)?
What is the weirdest movie(s) you have seen?
There’s something I remember seeing a clip of on TV, never saw the whole thing but the scene involved a father catching a guy in bed with his daughter, ensuing to a chase involving boats/yachts across a harbor, and ending with the father’s boat destroying a marina by smashing in to it and releasing an anchor. I don’t remember what happened past that point, just that the whole thing seemed very bizarre. I don’t think it was even bad per se, just, especially with being like 13 at the time, a very strong case of WTF am I watching?
I like Half-Life, how about you?
Are there any interesting facts about you or your sona?
What is your favourite thing to do?
What's your favorite food?
Have you ever seen the rocky horror picture show?
As an archaeologist, what do you do at work?
The archaeological work I do is currently field archaeology, which tends to come in 3 varieties, survey, excavation, and monitoring.
Survey is where a parcel of land needs to be checked to see if anything is there. A crew of 3-12 archaeologists will be sent out and will be lined up with an even spacing, usually 15-20m apart, and will hike back and forth in straight lines until the whole parcel is covered. Hard work, especially in rough terrain, but takes me to cool places and find cool things.
Excavation is probably the classical imagery of an archaeological site. There’s methodical digging, often with strings set up for excavation units, and everyone is carefully digging up what’s buried. It’s done in measured layers usually, and everything is thoroughly documented. (Difference between science and screwing around after all!) Have found and seen some cool stuff on digs, pretty much all in the Tucson area so far.
Monitoring is where an archaeologist is kept present during a construction project or pipeline excavation, or anything where a construction crew is digging. Basically what I do with monitoring is watch other people digging, and keeping an eye out for anything archaeological that might come up. Can be interesting, but also sometimes a bit monotonous, I’ll listen to a lot of podcasts when doing that.
Though, I will admit, standing watch while others dig does feel a bit like a meerkat on sentry duty :•)
