There’s a few options I’ve thought of

The first I can think of is a squirrel, kinda similar weird little guy vibes, very energetic which tracks well with the adhd, (especially if I consider my younger self lol) still do some digging… Squirrel definitely could fit

Coyotes have some neat desert vibes and while not even first or second choice of an alternative, they do look neat and have some neat vibes, and the big triangle ears are admittedly fun. Probably my choice if I had to go with a canine species

A hummingbird has been considered as a sort of way to explore some of the challenges of being diabetic. Having to closely monitor my blood glucose levels and carry food and sugar supplies in case that drops too low has been described to me as “you’re like a hummingbird” so if I ever wanted one as like an educational tool or something for explaining my type 1 diabetic experience, that could be useful. (Especially since my meerkat sona has been described specifically as not diabetic)

Special mention to alpine goats and border collies as those are probably the best match of my genetic heritage of “all of Western Europe tossed in a blender”
