How Victor writes is so special to me. Deep down inside he wants someone to know him and love him for everything he is, but he sabotages that by isolating himself. He gave up on humans and diverts his attention to flowers and animals instead.
Which is to say... I write Victor as seeing Andrew a bit like a stray cat and relating him the flowers. That connection in his head makes it a bit easier to want to be extra kind to him. Not to mention how deliciously secretive Andrew is
He's truly in a "cry for help" situation, in which he can't talk at all. If they don't say anything cruel or look at him in certain way he won't be hurt.
I make Victor see Andrew in a similar way too! I think Andrew don't usually look at others face when he talks, probably hangs his head low....that probably gave Victor the impression of easier approach. But I like to break his comfort by making Andrew suddenly staring at him in the eye in an analysing way, making Victor jump in his skin (even though he is the scariest one).
Canon not letting them meet was such a wasted opportunity because Victor would be SO nosy about Andrew in the funniest way it might end up in Andrew knocking him out out of fear
