The concept is so great but in general it suffers from "soulmate mark" fic syndrome where the minute you click you're just kind of waiting for "catch." Like how do I see this, you see "solboo mating run" and you're like, "Okay! I know exactly what is inside this can." And you don't exactly, there's different details, and reasons why they're nervous, anxious, excited, but you know it's just different seasonings to the real substance of the fic: half feral boning on the forest floor. Which is fine! I just don't always get what I'M looking out of it, which is usually more of a will they or won't they figure out they're in love thing.

I'm not sure I'm ever likely to write it myself. Or if I did it would be as a diversion in a larger omegaverse thing. Or something that puts the trope on his head (for example, I once had an idea where wonu was lethargically participating in a mating run only to discover he was NOT in fact an alpha on the hunt. He was an omega being hunted.)
