How would you best advise someone who does traditional art (mostly just pencil / pen sketching) to get into the digital space? I find it immensely difficult to translate skills over to digital! Thanks!
Starting small is the best, I recommend getting a tablet secondhand go see if digital drawing is even something you’d prefer to have in your toolset.
it’s essential you make the transition as easy as possible for yourself, use brushes that emulate charcoals or pastels, whatever is familiar to you. Start with very soft strokes, you’ll be surprised how your control differs from what your use to, but in time and with practice you’ll find it strengthens your hand eye coordination.
I’d argue the most important thing is to set your expectations low, your first digital drawings are unlikely to turn out well,, use this time to your advantage, have fun with drawing in simplicity for awhile, before you know it you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how clean your drawings begin to look.
Before asking i must say, you're a really talented person and i admire your art like ANYTHING else :3.
Are you self-taught? What do you think about when you draw? or, what's on your mind on the process of making those beautiful art pieces?
so sweet of you to say I cannot overstate my appreciation.
I am self taught but have learned much from engaging artists with professional skillsets, though I am eager to eventually get an educational accolade.
I really don’t feel seen at any time, so it’s through my art I pose questions to myself. there’s a lot of back and forth internally about who's hurting who.
Are you okay with people using your art for pfp? With credit of course.
your art is like a lamp, and i am a moth, i am drawn to the glow of your pieces. your style, like a carved masterpiece alongside regular pottery, it stands out to me more beautifully than the rest. i wish to see more divine art pieces from you in future. 🤍
what an incredibly thoughtful ascension of my works! fitting in has always been a struggle for me so seeing that my oddities are admired by some truly means a lot. I have so many astonishingly talented contemporaries who I hope to continue learning from and growing with! more works are sure to come.
i rlly admire your artwork, you are a huge inspiration to me! i cant wait to see what else you create ☆
What’s some of your favourite video games?
this list could span many scrolls, what a joyus question! my heart will always belong to Minecraft, Ive spent countless years engrossed in that fanciful world, and many more to come! I adore The Last of Us, and controversially was captivated by the second installment as well, I grew up playing spore and it very much influenced my fascination with biology, Darkwood is so inspiring to me on so many levels, anything by Yames; they are truly such a visionary, Scorn is so admirable to me; I wish it had been received more positivity! some others are Soma, Portal, and Yume Nikki. humorously there are also a few Roblox ‘experiences’ I’m very fond of as well such as Vaporwave Plaza, Meat Circus, Dream World, and Concinnity!
What’s your inspiration behind your art?
Do you fw weezer
How do you go about choosing the colors for your pieces? Your color choice is always very pretty, so I was curious if you had a process or just went as you painted. Also semi related, have you done any traditional work before?
it would be difficult to disclose precisely how I choose my colours, it’s on flux and the palettes I choose will depend on the piece; however I do not divulge too much to explain that I do not use the colour wheel for my selection, rather I opt for the RGB sliders. in physical pigments the process of fine tuning a color is more in line with that of the RGB sliders, I feel it’s made a massive improvement to my ability to select palettes that accurately account for the variations in hue as tone shifts in range.
I typically reference heavily the lighting and palettes of my pieces from media I am interested in at the time, for instance my minecraft pieces are developed with a careful study of the games color ranges; I then try to imagine myself creating those colors out of physical pigments. should a color realistically be able to reach this vibrancy with oil paints? how will the hue shift as I enter a new value range? these are just some of the questions I try to keep in mind.
I have done some work with charcoals but for the vast majority of my art now I have maintained digital as my primary medium.
what brush do you use on procreate?
Have you ever animated before?
Do you listen to music when you draw? Any that inspires you?
whats your artwork process/what do you use?
