What qualities do you think make for a good cast of characters in a game (or show)?
I think what makes a "good cast" is so broad and can be achieved in so many different ways that I wouldn't really know how to answer this, but I think the most important part of a good cast is the interactions that the cast have with each other. Characters don't exist in a vacuum, and their interactions are how we learn more about them. How they talk and act around others, and how that teaches us about them, is the most important part of characterisation to me, particularly in dialogue.
How many TB's of music do you have saved?
I know it ain't just gigs, it's gotta be in the terabytes!
185GB. Keep in mind I also put music on my phone so if it can't fit on there I tend to not keep it on my PC.
Obviously this varies depending on genre but, for you, what elements make for a good game experience?
Well, basically all of the genres and series I play are known for being story heavy, so that's clearly important to me, particularly with characterisation and dialogue. I place a lot of value in a strong, memorable soundtrack, even more so if it's listenable outside of the context of the game, and a distinct visual style is a pretty nice hook. These three core appeals are present in almost all of my favourite games.
I don't need the most graphically impressive title but I do definitely struggle with anything pre-PS2, because my first console was the Wii. I hate buggy games, and games with poor UI or onboarding/tutorialisation. It's pretty rare that I can get super invested in games without caring much for their writing, and most of the exceptions are games with fairly unique gameplay systems such as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, and NEO: The World Ends with You. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is fast entering that tier as well because wow the writing is... there's issues, let's put it that way.
I hate randomness, and I tend to dislike games that force you to play them multiple times to see everything. Fire Emblem is the bane of my existence because of all of the randomness involved, the limited exp on top of random stat growths, and worst of all, Three Houses making you play the game 4 times where the first half is nearly identical on all of them. No thanks! It doesn't help that I think 3H also has really poor onboarding where it overwhelms you with tons of options without sufficiently explaining why you should care about any of them, and why any of them are valuable for different reasons or situations. Plus every other series-wide critique I have for FE.
idk this was kinda rambly but eh, hope that was interesting!
Do you have a nsfw account?
Yes and I'm only giving it out to extremely trusted friends because of my tastes lol.
Which version of the TARDIS has the best interior? Which Doctor’s sonic screwdriver is the best?
These are not things I tend to think about but I guess my fave interior is Capaldi's?
In your opinion, which FFXIV storyline is the best and which is the worst?
Keeping in mind I've only finished 3.0, holy shit Dark Knight is cooking. Natsuko Ishikawa is a queen and both chapters so far have been great. 30-50 is more consistent than 50-60 but the last couple quests of 50-60 end really nicely.
Which 2-3 tracks from Pokèmon games are your all-time favs?
I actually don't remember almost any unfortunately lmao
What do you think makes a good mystery/suspense story?
You need to be able to solve things ahead of time if you're paying attention. A mystery that cannot be realistically solved without extreme guesswork before the answer is given to you, is a poor mystery because mystery is fundamentally an interactive genre, and unsolvable mysteries disincentivise that interactivity.
Also, if a story becomes worse with knowledge of plot twists and later story info, THE STORY WAS ALWAYS BAD EVEN THE FIRST TIME. Spoilers should not ruin stories, and if they do ruin stories, the story always sucked.
Whether its the music, atmosphere, or general vibes, what are your favorite areas/regions in Final Fantasy (any game)?
Hardcore carried by the music here but the Sunleth Waterscapes in Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, it's got the best track in the first game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbktye3f0oo) and one of the best tracks in all of JRPGs in the second game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuBNP7kyDRc). Also it's gorgeous.
Has a game that seemed low-quality ever surprised you with how good it is?
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is not a terrible game like some say it is. Does it have a lot of problems? Absolutely. Do those problems make a lot of sense when you look at the insane development history? Definitely. 2.0 in particular has some rough spots, but I do think even in 2.0 it excels at things like worldbuilding, even though it suffers in characterisation and plot.
why are you such a dumb cringe fagg0t lmao? I'd say you're probably an AIDS monkey but I can only imagine what an 1) autistic 2) JRPG fan looks like irl lelelelelel
Judging by the cringey and hateful trolling, you're probably my ex-boyfriend and you're just desperate for attention. Normally I'd just ignore you, but given it's been months and I've had to block TEN TWITTER ACCOUNTS, I feel like you're so lacking in self-respect and self-awareness that you legitimately might not ever stop if I don't show other people how desperate and deranged you are. Have you told your friends and family that you've tried to force your way back into my life via 10 accounts, after I've told you multiple times that if I ever saw your face again I would call the police? Truly embarrassing.
Whenever you say anything new to me, my reaction is half laughing at how pathetic and desperate you've become, and disgust at the blatant emotional manipulation and refusal to move on. I'm not interested in talking to you, and I never will be. Fuck off out of my life and stop harassing me. Please don't make me go to the police. I'd really rather not.
What is your current most anticipated game, and why?
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. Yes, it came out 8 years ago, but there is no game I am more excited to play, having been trapped in A Realm Reborn for nearly 2 years.
If it has to be games that hasn't released yet, I have so much shit to play in my backlog that I honestly have no interest in anything new except for Persona 3 Reload, which only gets to be an exception thanks to the primary hyperfixation status that Persona holds over me.
Which pieces of media have been most important to developing your sense of taste?
Danganronpa was my first ever anime aside from Ghibli movies, and it was very fundamental to me becoming a weeb. I got into anime for a few years before I took a look at the community and the industry, realised both were toxic as shit and just stopped watching new anime. Persona 5 literally salvaged my mental health for years and it was massively important in helping me realise really important shit. Then playing the DR visual novels later, I'd say those two franchises really solidified my taste in games (which is mostly JRPGs and visual novels lol).
I don't know what else I would include to be honest.
Do you like the older Final Fantasy games or do you prefer the more modern ones? What about remakes like FFVII?
I have not sunk any significant amount of time into most Final Fantasies and for a long time I thought I just didn't like the series, but I adore XII The Zodiac Age. One of my two favourite combat systems of all time, it is a crime that we've never seen the Gambits system revisited, and I like the License Boards a ton too. I played XIII to completion for my boyfriend and while the start of the game is just as bad as people say, if not worse, it does eventually get better, and I found myself really enjoying the later chapters. I'm also a crazy person that sunk nearly two years into completing almost everything in XIV A Realm Reborn before finally reaching the Heavensward expansion very recently. It took me nearly 1000 hours and a lot of it was painful but getting to experience almost everything patch by patch, level by level, was worth it. Good game.
I've tried Final Fantasies I, IV, VIII, X and XV and most of these I've not sunk more than a couple of hours because they didn't grip me. XV got over 20 hours from me before I started realising all of the problems it has, it's one of those games where it's a lot of small things that creep up on you over time.
Do you think it’s fair to describe 13SAR as a ‘visual novel?’
Fuck no. I find it a grossly insulting description for a game that puts so much effort into its interactivity in the storytelling. People don't know how to describe a Japanese story heavy game unless it's a visual novel or a JRPG. 13 Sentinels is neither. It's a story heavy adventure game with a real time strategy tower defense mode. Why is this so hard for people to describe?
