what keyed you into the pine marten being your kin animal?

Important to note I'm torn between it and a stoat, somewhere in this range. Realizing your theriotype I think is maybe a unique experience for everyone - the people who are so 100% sure of their species I can't relate to them, it must be nice! I think therian-ism in general is not a universally agreed upon experience and means different things to people. For example a lot of people think they are "actually this animal" or "this animal's spirit on the inside" and this is not so for me, I don't believe spirits have a static shape. I lean more into believing in reincarnation and that I was an animal so recently that its still left impressions on me, or that it is a form I spiritually prefer even if for whatever reasons I'm human now.

Long disclaimer out of the way, therianism to me is related to the "animal impressions/behavior impulses" I have and have had since childhood. The human body has always felt awkward and wrong to me, and I've always been envious of animal bodies. I think a lot of therians think they're wolves because canine behavior is usually the main animal behavior we have contact with in childhood and wolves are wild and majestic and relate to that familiarity so its sort of a thing you default to when you're not as familiar with other animals - I had this "I'm actually a wolf" phase as well haha. But as you age and familiarize yourself with more animal species is when things begin to align and click. For me my "impressions" and "impulses" are things like being a solitary predator, hunting primarily small rodents and rabbits (i think this is part of why mice/rats are so cute to me it is lingering affection haha), denning, being in a woodsy environment, rivers/lakes i would occasionally catch fish at, etc. I felt naturally drawn to mustelids and realized the behavior matched up.

A lot of people think I kin a sheep/goat(mistaken species they're a sheep) bc of my fursona which is funny! A grey sheep is more representative of who i am as a human.
