The world is ending in 30 days and it is (somehow) your responsibility to decide which 10,000 people will be put on a spaceship to safely take people to a new world. Who would you select? What would be your selection criteria? Would you be in the 10,000?
10.000 is a large enough group that the general statistical deviation occurs. 40% idiots, 40% not interested and 20% ok. I kill the 40+40 and turn them into rocket fuel. The remaining 20 will have to decide for themselves while I use the extra rocket fuel to do the Elvis thing, I'll leave the building.
