Took me MONTHS to find someone with enough smithing and artifice know-how to do the job. A lovely little gnome Gondite an hour south of Baldur's Gate (Goddess what a shit hole kingdom that is!) with an eye for exactly the kind of thing I needed.

After that, three hard lacquer coats, 70 gold pieces, a roll in the hay as handsome tip. They only need to be stripped once every other year and reapplied! Just...don't walk through lava or acid. Completely ruins the look.
