So you're from Hivemind's world, right? I'm Wildfire! I'm a Kaiju dragon, about 200 feet tall at the shoulders. I see from older questions that you're a bit of a shapeshifter? What is the biggest form you've ever taken?
Hi Wildfire! I'm Kaleb! The biggest form I've ever taken and remained in control was when I mixed in Brontosaurus DNA and Purrgil DNA to physically tow a small evac ship that lost power to the nearest space station. Going from my current size to that monstrosity sure surprised the champion fledglings I was put in charge to mentor at the time, that's for sure.
There was this other time, though, where I was something much, much bigger, but the moment I tapped into it, I lost control immediately because of how ancient and primal the beast was. It was a world eater. I was in a new incarnation at the time, fresh from being retrained by my own previous apprentice, no less. Anyway, the planet was experiencing a strange phenomenon, its magnetic signature was in flux, and the tectonic plates were strangely active. After investigating, my team found out that a world eater had been buried in the planet's crust long ago and was about ready to hatch. Of course, we immediately informed Hivemind and began evacuation procedures, but there was this one scientist so determined to save his home that he secured a sample of its DNA and presented it to me. He was convinced I could tap into its power to slay the beast, and they wouldn't have to abandon their home. I knew it was against protocol, but he was so desperate, and at the time, I was too naive and caved. I saw it in his eyes, how desperate he was to save his home and his culture, that I felt like it was my duty to at least try. I consumed the sample, and when I tried to tap into its power, I lost control immediately. I slew the hatchling because of some territorial instinct, but then I was told I set my sights on my surroundings afterward. Due to my potential for destruction, the heavy hitters were called in, and well... I was beaten, too, and had to reincarnate again. Of course, the scientist was court-martialed, and I was banned from ever visiting that planet.
When I was old enough to understand what had happened, Hivemind talked my ear off and introduced me to a telepath friend of his. The DNA I consumed is stored in my head as if I read a book or learned something, so Hivemind called in a specialist to have that information locked away behind a mental lock, and on the off chance it would be needed, a passcode was set, and when spoken to me, I'll regain the information of the world eater. So yeah, that's the biggest form I've ever gotten to, but unless something extremely dire happens again, I probably won't be getting that big any time soon.
Hey there, Kaleb, I’m Mirage! I’ve heard of your ability to copy non-sentient animal DNA into your being. I’m curious, what have been your most used powers, and how many different ones can you apply to yourself at once before it gets risky?
Nice to meet you, Mirage! Okay, so my most used forms vary from mission to mission, though for everyday usage, it's definitely some of my bird forms. The Beacon is a massive ship, and getting around can be tedious if you don't have the right abilities to help you. As for how many I can mix together before I lose control, I'd say four is my max limit before I'm no different than any beast. When I'm in that kind of state, it takes a lot to snap me out of it. Usually, I need someone I'm familiar with to help snap me out of it or a telepath to dive into my subconscious and right the balance between me and the apex.
Hello there, Kaleb, this is, well, also Caleb. I am a Celestial Guardian-in-training. Since I’ve been forbidden from interacting with Dark Aspect artifacts by both Sir Hivemind and my commander, Lady Laurana, I wanted to ask about your connection to I believe was Cupiditas? What are the effects of the influence of a Dark Aspect on you?
Let's see... Starting with the most obvious, the dark aspect's blessing mutated my original powers into what it is today, and I wish that were the end of it, but there's more. Cupiditas is the aspect of greed, but that doesn't compel me to horde treasure or riches; that would be easy. Instead, it compels the only thing the animal half of my body to seek out the only thing it would want: food.
A hidden facet of my abilities is that I not only inherit the DNA and body composition of the animals I consume but their instincts as well. If I'm currently assimilating some kind of bird and the temperature drops too low, I feel the pull to seek out warmer climates, and so on and so forth. Cupiditas's 'blessing' amp up my animal side's need to find food and survive. I've come to call this collection of instincts: The Apex.
It's like an extreme prey drive. When I catch a whiff of blood or hear the whines of someone receiving an injury, there's always the pull to consume. Even if I'm not all that hungry, it suddenly feels like I haven't eaten in days, and my vision clouds till all I can see is something I have to consume to survive.
Thankfully through meditation and strict training, I've learned how to keep my instincts from going wild. Still in the midst of battle, if I feel the pull to consume and it gets too strong for me to control, the most I can do is aim the Apex at an unfriendly and hope my fellow champions can restrict me in time.
Hello there, Kaleb, this is the demon, Macabre, speaking. I have been informed that since your transformation, you have lost the ability to safely enjoy chocolate, and for that I mourn for you.
I am curious, have you found anything that could be considered a substitute? I have found a world that has chocolate meant to be safe for canid consumption, but it is simply not the same.
Apologies in advance for the nerd speak, but since you're asking...
After tasting all sorts of imitation chocolate and most of them coming up short, I've recently made a breakthrough. Since taste is just the sensation of the nerves in our tongues being simulated by certain chemicals, it got me thinking. Suppose I can find the right balance in safe to consume chemicals to stimulate the nerves in similar enough sensations. In that case, I can reproduce the chocolate taste without killing my canine body!
I've already come across a brand that gets the texture and feel of chocolate just right, but the taste is by far the worst I've ever come across. If I could just combine that substance with the right balance of chemicals I could, theoretically, create imitation chocolate!
Of course, I'd have to be careful not to infringe on the terrible imitation chocolate's patent and the testing on if the chemicals have any long-term effects on the body would take a while but since the discovery of my ability to reincarnate, I've got nothing but time.
Hey, Hawk here...er the Real Hawk Redsky...ahem Uh so, if it's OK with you, I'd like to ask: What was going through your head when the revelation about the Reploid Hawk came out?
I was furious. Two months after the accident that mutated my powers into what it is, I was kidnapped from the hospital during a rehab session. Then I was auctioned as a weapon, bought and sold, then experimented on, and taken samples off of to see if it was a DNA mutation or powers. It wasn't a pleasant experience, to say the least.
Then he rescued me... or it looked that way anyway. As I continued to master my powers, I realized it wasn't just my body that underwent a change. My mind also adopts some of the instincts of the original animal. They say dogs are one of the most loyal animals this side of the galaxy, and when I saw Reploid Hawk, my then Hero, vanish in an instant. I was furious I needed to rescue him and get him back somehow to repay the kindness he showed me, but then I realized it was all a fake, and it all gave way to betrayal.
Hey, Mr. Kaleb, I’m Oliver! First, I want to apologize for how I handled you a while back. I thought you were a regular dog, sorry! ^^;
Secondly, I know that a lot of Champions have superpowers, so what are yours like?
Hi Oliver! Don't worry about it. I'm used to it by now. Now as for your question, the answer is a little bit complicated. I used to be human, and after months of tireless research, I found out that my power used to be reconstitution. If my body sustained damage and didn't die outright, my body could use surrounding material to rebuild itself better and stronger. However, an accident involving a computer virus containing the blessing of the Aspect of Greed Mutated or Evolved my power as my body was repairing itself from the explosion.
I woke up in the body of a dog with the ability of Therian shift. Whenever I take in non-sentient animal DNA, my body stores that information then I can shift my body to incorporate characteristics of any animal I've eaten before. I can grow the wings of an eagle, the size of an elephant, the sting and venom of a bullet ant. I can even mix these traits together as long as I don't contradict certain traits. An example of incompatible traits would be the bulk of an elephant with the speed of a Cheeta. Mixing and matching animal traits has a downside, though. If I mix together too many, my capacity to think and reason goes down with each trait incorporated.
