Genuine question: How is the zine supposed to be 16+, when the source material is rated mature (17+ in the USA)? What makes Mononoke unique is how it portrays and comments on the horrors humans are capable of committing. But contributions to the zine won't be allowed to reference the stories & themes of the source material? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Thank you for the question! You are correct that the zine is rated lower than the original anime in the USA, but that does not mean that we are not allowing references to the stories. We are allowing and highly encourage contributors to raise these themes. The zine's rating was set below 17+ as we wanted to make it accessible for more fans, and because other territories have set the rating lower, such as 15+ for Australia and 13+ for Japan. We were concerned that setting it higher might give the impression that we are allowing mature content that goes beyond canon. Additionally, as the zine is shipping from Australia, we decided that a lower rating reflecting the rating in Australia would be more suitable for the zine.
