the odd thought just hit me that, if asked why he hates quidditch, tom/voldie would probably have the same hang-ups about it as most common-sense muggles. (wtf are the rules? great idea to have a sport so high up in the air, you can't see a thing [i don't need glasses, silence], the whole concept of the seeker is the stupidest thing because at least the others make sense -- goalscorers, defenders, keepers, sure, fine, that's logical -- but some bloody twit just zipping around doing their own thing chasing a shiny marble is hardly teamwork and completely renders the rest of the team a moot point... ) i bet he hates muggle sports too, and who knows if there are some crippled orphans at Wools in the past because he was once forced into a rugby game or something, but i laugh at the thought of "this is the wizard sport, I must like it!" just dying a shrill death for tom/voldie because he can't get past "this is stupid, i refuse to engage with this."
(also bonus points if his main rival at school was the 40s equivalent of cedric.)
I was literally thinking about this, this morning in a dadmort sense. Like Harry really being into quidditch and Voldemort not giving a fuck but wanting to find a way to connect to Harry besides something violent or their shared past. He shows up at Harry’s quidditch games not understanding what’s going on, but going to support him. He buys the merch and takes him to professional games and listen as Harry open ups and goes on rants about his favorite teams even though he never really gets it.
Harry knows he doesn’t get it, but seeing someone there in the stands for HIM and it’s just for something like quidditch brings him so much joy that he didn’t know he was allowed to experience before.
So now you can picture dadmort in the quidditch stands with his son annoyed that he doesn’t get it. But then he looks down to his son who is SO excited to be there and looks up with him with such joy that dadmort can’t help but think that this was worth it and smile back.
