How long does it take for Uriele and Glyss to get together and how do they officially start courting / dating?
After meeting at a garden party Uriele and Glyss probably met in secret a couple times a week for a few months, up until Glyss murdered Auren who had snuck into the garden where he and Uriele would meet in secret. I think up until that point they’d been close friends, Glyss trying to keep some distance, scared of forming attachment. Once the stakes raise I think their relationship will slowly lean more into their romance, I’ve tried to make it a slow burn!
Is there a specific reason Uriele went blind?
She was born blind, so it was totally congenital. For Wealden Deva, those born without sight are a huge deal and seen to be destined as prophets, seers, and bridges to the spirit world. Some will intentionally blind themselves to fill those roles, but it’s never quite the same as those born sightless.
What inspires you when creating and worldbuilding your deva species?
Basic answer is whatever media I’m big into, but I think Zelda was the blueprint for me, having first picked up OoT at like, 3, and it permanently altered me LOL. I love high fantasy settings, WoW really made me put a foot forward into making this world due to dissatisfaction in blizzard and their writing decisions at times, especially regarding smallfolk. I think being an anthropology major also played a lot into wanting to make a fantasy world that is done hopefully, more respectfully than others. The variance of human culture is really amazing, and being able to represent that in a fantastical way is a cool thing to me, while keeping things free to hopefully encourage those interested from any genre ☺️
How did Uriele's fathers find her?
In the calm following the war fought between both elf and human, her father Temeluchus was alerted to her by a scout while the wounded and killed were gathered. I have a bit of writing describing this on her toyhouse under the history tab if you wanna check it out! The writing is kind of old, so I’m sure the quality isn’t all that but here you go: https://toyhou.se/7457663.uriele-lightweaver
What is urieles family like? Are they nobility and if they are, what makes them nobility and what is her family known for?
Oh god this may be a little long. Uriele was adopted by a pair of Old Elves (a subrace of elves in my world) when found as an infant in the remains of a war between elves and humans, which Uriele's biological family and people were caught in between. Her fathers, the Archbishop Temeluchus and High Priest Ramiel, are not only religious figures, but also governing figures within the theocracy that the city Solis Occasum is under. Old Elves worship the sun and wield solar magic, and through their extensive and powerful abilities with this magic, they have achieved the closest thing to immortality in Nova terra at the cost of becoming fully reliant on solar energy, and only being able to thrive in areas with concentrated areas of solar magic. There are only around 100 Old Elves left, almost all of which comprise Solis Occasum's ruling body, headed by the mysterious Grand Cardinal. The rest of the city's population comprises mostly of New Elves, which are more typical to high fantasy elves, and a small percentage of these New Elves are involved in the high court with Old Elves (organized by esteemed family names).
This is kind of digression from the question, BUT the Lightweavers (her fathers) are known for their close involvement with the Grand Cardinal in assisting with the city's most official matters. Temeluchus is known for his seemingly limitless knowledge of combat, both with offensive magic and weaponry, and is typically charged with leading the city's armed forces. Ramiel is one of the best Old Elven healers, and prides himself on his ever-growing library of books from all across the world. He aims to read every book that's ever been, and his vast knowledge is only bolstered by his perfect memory. He's much softer than his husband, and has much lass combat experience. Aside from that, their reputation has become firstly that they're the parents of the only Devan child in the city. Uriele's arrival as an infant caused an enormous stir in the court!
Will venus ever find love? Or is it something you’re leaving open ended for possiblies?
Falling in love is definitely what Venus wants the most, but I don’t want it to be the thing that completes her, if that makes sense? I don’t want pairing her off to be her conclusion, I want her to be able to grow independently. I think she’ll find love, but maybe not in the way she envisions it? Because of her role, Venus thinks that’s all she needs to find happiness, it’s her entire identity, so exploring her complexities and challenging her is important to me. But yeah, she’ll find love some kind of way! I’m just not sure how yet ✌️
Does uriele or her family have any pets?
Uriele has 3 cats her adoptive fathers gifted to her. Her dads are very protective of her and waited a while before deciding a pet would be suitable for her, deliberating on what would work best. I don’t have names for them yet, but the one that she’s most closely bonded to is directly based off of my own calico cat Evelyn!
Do you accept fanart? I think Uriele is such a gorgeous character and I’d love to draw her sometime!!
Uriele is so pretty, I love seeing artwork of her pop up on my feeds ♡
Selfish little me asking: How will Uriele feel about bringing Atropos back to Solis Occasum
Nervous; she has no idea what to expect the reception to be, and how the court will react. She’s heard plenty of things said about herself, but never seen the faces spitting venom. Urieles adoption into the court caused plenty of stir, so there’s lots of reason for her to be nervous on how such a proposition will go!
Is Uriele aware that she is adopted? Does she know she doesn’t quite look like the elves around her? If so, how does she feel about that?
She’s fully aware! Her dads are a good 7-8 feet taller than her, and most other elves are a good 2-3 feet taller, so she knows she sticks out like a sore thumb. They loved her so hard and brought her up with a ton of emphasis on self affirmation, and how perfect she is despite being the only of her kind in the court. She’s pretty steeled, but there have been plenty of times where she’s overheard things, or simply felt alienated due to how different she is. In her lowest moments in the court, she’s wished she could be someone else, someone sighted, sure.
What are the favorite snacks of your Oc's? Specifically Glyss and Uriele
It’s so refreshing to see such a beautiful and original character. I adore seeing the art you get of her and the little things you’ve wrote. The entire deva species is also just stunning... I thought you should here this!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!! It's so special to be able to just throw out ideas and create people and an entire world, and have other people actually look at them. I'm excited to continue developing both my ocs and their world, and how I can continue opening up the world for others to incorporate their own characters within Nova Terra!
What does Uriele's image of Glyss look like?
I've turned this one over in my hands for days, this is such a tough and good question. How can one genuinely describe something with a sense they've never experienced? Uriele would describe Glyss as warm, safe, enveloping, but like a stifled flame she wants to care for and be able to grow alongside. She knows the shape of his slender fingers and the curve of his jaw, or how much taller and lithe he is than her, but she can't quite explain why those shapes make her chest flutter. She's never asked someone to describe Glyss' appearance to her, which would mean very little, so whatever representations she's pieced together in her mind have also borrowed from the books she's read growing up. She desperately wants to ask someone about his appearance, but has been far too shy to do so.
What do you think matters most to each of your OCs?
For Uriele, probably the freedom to make or even potentially lose relationships. She wants to experience life and connections organically, for both all of its beauty and loss. She loves her fathers, but knows she can't flourish within a gilded cage.
For Venus, I think it would be to find people who see her for more than the fertility/sex icon that she's been idolized as within her community. She wants to be seen and respected as more than just a creature of desire and beauty.
For Vulabee, being able to have healing spaces that they're actually comfortable in, which are few and far between at their home. Vulabee is kind of one big clenched fist most of the time, so having an area to decompress is major. They virtually have no friends, so the potential of having someone else who can understand them in addition to that safe spot would be the most ideal. The closest thing they have to that currently would be Venus.
