Heya - really wanna tune into your Umineko streams but I haven't played it yet - I tried Higurashi and it was really, really good but had to stop for a bit bc of how disturbing it got - should I finish it before starting Umineko?

You can, but you don't have to! They're completely separate stories that are in conversation with one another thematically, in some ways. Higurashi will let you see how that conversation develops, but storywise, it won't really be required.
