Such a good fella.itch.io ;)
Is Nomax the only passenger aboard Conway? Does he also eat with the crew?
He is, yes. At the time the game is set, the concept of passenger ships as we know them today didn't really exist. So, just like he did, if you needed to go somewhere, you just kind of booked yourself on whatever cargo ship would get you there and hope for the best. No scheduled departure or neat desctinations ro pick or anything of that sort.
So yeh, he's the only passenger, and typically doesn't eat with the lower rungs of the crew. Though there are moments where he might due to some circumstance, such as in a section of the upcoming update.
Just started reading this Gem! Reading The 48 Laws of power while reading this too is surreal. I can see so many parallels between the two and how the MC gets treated and other dynamics. Awesome work & writing!!
Do you already have a rough outline or concept for the end of the story?
Yep, pretty much since the beginning. Of course, yes, like you said it's more on the rough side, since the process is pretty fluid with new ideas popping up, refinements to the ideas become clearer, or just neat new choices come that would be fun to implement come to mind while writing a scene.
But the big-picture character arcs and themes for the characters have changed very little since the inception.
... so what is James'/the cast's sexual orientation(s)? Pretty sure James like guys (if you know you know), but is he a fan of the ladies as well? :0
Yep, it's a case of everyone involved being bi, and in the same vein nobody really has a problem with the sexual orientation of the other characters.
They're the parts that are most blatently changed from the probable reality back then. And while I'm sure there are some fantastic stories that could have been told around that, it's just one of the things I picked to make it a bit easier on myself.
Since it's an adult game, and one where I do want to allow for the freedom to have people pick their paths how they want, it just felt like it would make it more difficult to shape the story around that.
So it's essentially a free for all. Everyone's bi, everyone's fine with everyone being bi, just go have fun with the characters you enjoy!
Wait, so is Sam trans or just adopting a male appearance to remain on the ship?
The latter. I assume the confusion comes from the pronouns? I kept them the way they are because, especially at the time, it was easier to do so (me being a potato of a programmer), with the idea being that the character doesn't want to mess up. So he just keeps all his thoughts on "Sam is a guy, Sam is a guy, Sam is a guy." to not accidentally slip up.
In retrospect I think it feels that it muddied it a bit too much, as it's a question I've been getting fairly often and I assume it stems from the pronoun use after it. So, changing it to variable pronouns depending on what the MC knows has been on the to-do list for a little bit. Which should hopefully help make it clear that Sam very much sees herself as a woman and that there is no dysphoria involved.
Silly remark: Samuel pocket knife looks like a white joint when he is far.
I'll ask Bandile to cook me an Hasenpfeffer sometime.
What people call themselves in Conway ?
I mean like "human" or something else ?
Interesting question that I've mostly ignored really, lmao.
Well, I have used "people" in the text before, I feel like that one is one that is somewhat commonly avoided already among furry writers?
But as for their equivalent of "human" specifically? I'm not sure. I think human could still work given the origin of the term, but I also think the species differences among all the amthropomorphic species would mean that they perhaps focus on a different aspect of what makes them different to regular animals.
Maybe they'd go with "sapiens" and highlight the difference in mental capabilities over their animal counterparts?
Have you played any furry VN? If so, have you got any inspiration for Conway from them?
Oh, yeah I have. Plenty of the bigger ones TSR, Shelter, Dawn Chorus and so on, some smaller ones mixed in there as well. Probably somewhere between one or two dozen that i've at least dipped my toes in, if not completed.
Biggest Conway inspiration was Dawn Chorus for the overall of feeling of it all. Love the chill vibes of it. Simply people being people and it was such good fun just being around the characters.
Just instead of a School Excursion it's an 18th century merchant ship because why the hell not?
James should push the horse overboard. NEEEEEEEIGH-
Do you have James design ? If not, will it be available in the future ?
Can you tell us the heights of all the characters in Conway ?
