What's the most useful piece of advice you've received for improving as an artist?

Honestly? I'm not sure. I tend to be very self-driven in that way, where I end up prodding things on my own to figure them out. So there haven't really been many situations where I had sitdowns with artists and they revealed their wisdom to me or what have you.
So I don't have any fancy quotable lines or anything like that.

I guess the advice that I still always struggle with is that most of your picture is being carried by the values. So whenever something isn't working, chances are pretty good it's your values messing it up. And so far, for my own work, it's been true more often than not when I felt stuck with a painting.
