I listened to a podcast which was about Britain during the reign of King Charles I and how terrible a king he was. What I don't quite get is why some people continue to commemorate him each year. In your country, is there any historical figure who is still commemorated
despite doing terrible things in their time?

(I must admit I’ve never heard of anyone celebrating the life King Charles I ever. Nor his successor.) A person who immediately springs to mind would be Margaret Thatcher - UK prime minister during the 1980s. She was (and still is) adored by many, many people; while simultaneously being despised by an equal amount. She either did great things for the country, or ruined the country, depending on your world view. The powers that be keep trying to put up statues of her but they immediately get vandalised and removed.
