I love to go to the beach. Not to sit about, or swim, or any of that stuff - just to walk and look at the sea and the sky. I think it's to do with being born in the North of Scotland, where the sea is freezing cold all year round. It's not much fun actually being in the water - although after a while you go numb and can't feel the hypothermia setting in. (A vaguely-related person came over from New Zealand one summer. The weather was glorious. She wanted to go in the sea. We told her it would be freezing. She said, "It's been sunny all day!" We told her it didn't make any difference it would still be freezing. She went in anyway and quickly wished she hadn't. I'll never forget the squealing.)
