is logic the most important things? if it's not, with what does it share its place?

Logic is important - I’m a huge fan of logic - but it’s not everything. Human beings need more than logic: we need art. Art is illogical. It doesn’t serve a useful purpose. It costs - time, money, effort - but from our first days on this planet we’ve made art. From blowing coloured pigment over your hand on a cave wall, to pickling half a cow in a Perspex box. From banging a stick on the ground, to The Magic Flute. From telling your family how you escaped from a lion by the skin of your teeth earlier that day, to The Satanic Verses.

Without art we’d all be driving identical grey boxes on wheels at no more than 50mph. Logic tells us that’s a safe speed to drive - less accidents, less casualties, less deaths - and the price would be manageable for all. But then we wouldn’t have Astin Martins, or Ferraris, or Bugatti Veyrons (my personal favourite), that are capable of 150mph. Veritable deathtraps! (A deathtrap never looked so good...) We’d all have the same kettles and sofas, wear the same drab shapeless garments, and carry our belongings in rucksacks - leaving our hands free is the most logical way to carry stuff after all. Logic tells us we need something to boil water quickly: art gives us the Bugatti Vera. Logic tells us we need to cover our skin to keep warm: art gives us The Little Black Dress. Logic tells us backpack: art gives us the 2.55. Thank the lord!
