Have you ever attended a Pride Parade or Pride Festival? Do you want to? Do you still attend?
yes, I live in Toronto, which has 2 days of marches (trans march follow by dyke march), followed by a day with a parade. the first pride thing I went to was the dyke march in the summer between ninth and tenth grade. my review: very hot outside, very crowded. and since then I've done the trans march twice and gone to the main parade maybe 3 times? but honestly hot weather and crowds are both pretty rough for me.
also, a couple years ago Pride Toronto banned uniformed cops from marching in the parade, but recently they went back on it because the city was gonna pull funding. I think they're a bunch of fucking cowards and I wont have anything to do with their events if this is how they're gonna be
there are a few lgbtq+ organizations here in the city that I love a lot and who do great work, but Pride Toronto is just highly-monied corporate garbage that does very little for the actual culture (like, arts festivals and stuff have to BEG them for funding, if they get it at all)
also the area with street vendors and whatnot is so blatantly predatory, theres always like ppl selling booze + lottery tickets and shit like fuck off
if Pride Toronto really changed their tune, or if I was visiting another city/town, I might do pride stuff again. as is, I'm happy to just support and inhabit smaller queer spaces the other 362 days of the year
I've been to two Pride events, one in my town and one in a nearby big city, and unfortunately I hated them. - too much noise, too many people, and nothing interesting to do. I think I'm just not cut out for events like that, because I don't enjoy socialising or doing the activities that are usually on offer at Pride (e.g. communal eating and drinking, live music, stalls, workshops, etc), so for me it just felt like a cross between a youth club and a shopping centre on a Saturday afternoon. It makes me sad, to be honest, because Pride is supposed to be the high point of the gay year, but I don't enjoy it at all, so I feel like I'm missing out on what should be a rewarding part of the Gay Experience.
