CW: dysphoria / a potentially misgendering societal thing.

have you encountered "women + trans" spaces? would you access one? is there a different sort of "safer space" that would meet your needs better, or that you would feel more comfortable in?

I've never encountered a "women + trans" space IRL, only online, and I wouldn't personally use one myself. I think that phrasing is based on the assumption that trans men aren't really men, so I wouldn't want to participate in a group like that. The ideal space for me would be one specifically for gay trans men (by which I mean Homosexual Gay, not Pansexual Gay), because I feel like I don't really relate to straight trans men very well, so a mixed trans group would probably not be that useful to me. In general I think I'm in favour of smaller, more focused/narrow groups, rather than larger catch-all groups.

what are your favourite beverages?

Hot drinks: Littles' Decaf Chocolate Caramel Instant Coffee 😍 Cold drinks: Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max (cherry, standard, or ginger, in that order), and pretty much any pink lemonade

which, if any, TV shows do you currently follow?

I don't tend to watch TV shows that are currently airing, as I prefer waiting until an entire season of something has been subbed and put up online (I worry that the subbing group will drop the show partway through 😰). At the moment I'm slowly working my way through Segodon, which was the taiga drama NHK aired in 2018. I think Segodon is the most recent taiga I've ever watched, since the show only finished on 16th Dec 2018, and we started watching it on 1st Jan 2019!

(full disclosure: I cant remember if I've asked this before or not)

do you speak any languages other than english? + if you could wake up tomorrow knowing 3 additional languages which ones would you pick?

Sadly not, I know bits and pieces of Japanese and Korean that I've picked up from TV shows, and a bit of French and Latin from school, but I'm nowhere near fluent in anything. If I could magically become fluent in three extra languages, I would pick Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese. The amount of books and films this would open up to me would be amazing! (But it's definitely not a high enough priority for me to warrant the effort required to actually learn these languages IRL)

do you get headaches and/or migraines? if you do, what typically seems to cause them?

I get migraines, the type with vision loss and scintillating scotoma followed by a severe headache, but thankfully I don't get the nausea or vomiting that some migraineurs experience. Sadly I've never been able to identify a trigger for my migraines, as they only happen a handful of times per year, and they don't seem to correlate with any environmental factors as far as I can tell from my records 🤔

Do you have a favorite outfit or article of clothing that you own? If so, what is it, and why do you like it?

My favourite outfit right now is very wintery: a dark plum roll-neck, dark brown corduroy trousers, a long burgundy overcoat, and brown leather gloves. It makes me feel very "me", very gay, and slightly sinister (plus the warmth is a nice bonus!)

I admire your confidence, your honesty, and your fearlessness. You are something of a social mentor or role model to me, as I wish I could speak with such care, tastefulness, and grace.

what's your idea of a "good day"? or; what would your perfect day look like?

dyl · 2 answers · 6y

how do you take care of / nurture yourself?

Either staying at home reading and colouring (I am a big fan of adult colouring books), or going out into the countryside. The common theme is getting away from in-person human contact - nothing recharges my batteries like solitude, especially in a beautiful location.

What's a piece of media (movie, book, album, etc.) that's strongly tied to a certain period in your life? When does it take you back to?

The film noir "Out of the Past" is strongly tied to the first year of my first degree, in 1999-2000. I watched it as part of a module on film analysis (I was doing an English Literature degree, but we could take modules about other adjacent subjects), and it introduced me to the immense subtextual gayness of the genre, so I fell in love with film noir very quickly afterwards 😍

When you were a child, did you know or learn any songs that never end?

No, and I don't think I've ever heard of a song that never ends, I can't even really grasp how that would work to be honest!

if you could travel back in time specifically for the purpose of courting someone from the past, who would you court?

I don't have any specific individuals in mind, but I would definitely visit 17th century Kyoto and have a lot of fun spending all my money on kabuki boys 😍

what would your perfect polycule look like?

Kind of like an organisational structure chart, with my other half at the top of the pyramid. Realistically though, I think I've only got time for one younger boyfriend, so it would be a three-person diagram with me in the middle (and no connection between my partner and my younger bf)

you've mentioned before that your ideal boy is a non-drinker / non-smoker, what is your relationship to substances like that?

how long have you been vegetarian?

I can't remember exactly, but I think it's been about 14 years,. I went through a phase of being vegan too, for about a year around 2007ish, but I didn't have the willpower to forgo cheese forever so I folded and went back to being a vegetarian 😅
