So wait, I just realized something. Doesn't that mean that some of Kingston's assholery and inflated ego in his younger years were inherited from his grandfather, given what we know about Ibuki?

uh no? I really don't see how you came up with Kingston having an inflated ego tbh. That's a whole other can of worms.

But as far as inheriting things from Ibuki, Kingston mostly resists being anything like his grandfather.

Ibuki is literally a misogynistic child abuser trying to live vicariously through his grandson's achievements by grooming [not sexually; I understand the word is usually used in that context but this is not the same context] his grandchild to be the ideal successor according to his own standards.

Kingston doesn't take to his grandfather's teachings because he knows about a lot of the shitty things that his grandfather did was unjustified and he sees through Ibuki's bullshit bc of how badly he treated his mom. And although he still wants to become the next successor, its because he wants to change things.
