can carrd portfolios/tumblr art tags be used as a portfolio, or does it have to be Google drive?
Carrd Portfolios are accepted, however our applications are closed. We'll begin with contributor spotlights starting this week!
what forms of merch are you guys looking for? (like stickers, icons, prints, etc)
Hi there! We're looking for digital merch only! Things like icons, digital stickers, backgrounds, emojis, and shimeji desktop pet!
Hi! Can I draw sanrio characters like a human? and can I draw they with other collaborations characters like jujutsu kaisen or attack on titan? Thanks you!
Artists are more than welcome to draw the Sanrio mascots in any form (human, anthro, original style). We aren't allowing crossover/collaborations with other characters at this time, we'd like to keep the zine focused on Sanrio characters.
for the individual art pieces, can i submit twitter links to the art pieces?
Yes you can! So long as it's one piece and not four different pieces.
for submitting individual art pieces is it ok if i submit links to the social media site(s) they were posted?
Yes! So long as it's one individual piece and not a collect. For example an Instagram post with multiple images will not be considered.
Can I make a pitch for any character or does it have to be from the interest check?
So long as the characters are from Sanrio! We're encouraging contributors to use characters other than the main 8
hi! im newer to the mod side of zines & wanted to ask what an art mod does vs a graphics mod
Hi there! Graphics mods are responsible for creating images and promotional materials for the zine, while art mods with the artist contributors providing feedback and checking in.
not the same anon as before but are you aware even digital releases are heavily regulated by sanrio (cannot emphasize enough how batshit they are) due to trademark considerations? I think you should probably have a plan in place for what will happen when you inevitably (because you will) get the cease and desist letter
Hi there! I'm very aware of the legal risks that come with making the zine. As I said previously I'm hoping to have a more solid plan to handle this prior to contributor apps go live as to not waste anyone's time. I don't have a concrete plan as of yet for what I can do past limiting the zine to digital and limiting the occurrence of characters for the time being. I've been reviewing Sanrio's trademark policies to see if there is wiggle room in addition to getting in contact with folks who have had success running Sanrio themed projects (such as the jojoriozine team) to see what their experience was like to gain a better understanding.
The goal (as of now) would be to talk with my mod team, figure out if there was a way to have Sanrio characters featured in the zine and if not we'd go full inspired or human versions of characters that nod to the source material.
hi there! what mod positions are you looking for?
At the moment we'll need Art and Formatting mods, but if we get more interest for writing then a Writing mod. I (Mari) currently handle our graphics and social media but if someone's interested in the position I'm open to delegating!
This zine seems super cute, but Sanrio is REALLY uptight about fanart including nonprofit artwork. Have you guys planned for that? Thanks!
The current plan is to restrict the zine to a digital release and minimize the use of Sanrio properties in the zine itself. At the moment, it looks like people are hoping to have Sanrio characters featured in the zine, so I'm hoping to navigate the situation before artist apps open.
