So what about mixing PS1 level of body horror with something "cool and cute" was an interesting idea for you? Also, was it really a good idea to have Abigail from your webcomic Gone Feral look like Holly Hollister from Endtown? I know it was one of your inspirations for your project, but that just makes the comparisons harder for your audience to ignore.
There is so much to unpack, I will try to keep it short for real this time.
I often hear people say you can't mix cartoons with actual drama; I call bullshit. There's something incredibly real about a cute critter overcoming impossible, often horrifying tasks. I don't know why I like it, maybe it's because I grew up reading Osamu Tezuka and Disney, as well as some obscure cartoons I won't mention, while also being continuously exposed to some fucked up shit that made me shit my pants as a kid (I was a huge whimp).
As for the second question; Gone Feral was NOT a good idea. It was desperate. I embrace the similarities with confidence, knowing that you will see just how different it is as time progresses and the comic develops. It might be my first, actual attempt at a long term narration, but it won't be the last. I was bound to make mistakes, I will make many more.
And I love it.
