You can look at their texts in a way, that they are not unfair to women. Take Islam for example. Yes, men can marry 4 women but he has to satify all 4 of them to the fullest or it is not going to happen. Or that your mother is more important than your father. Much more according to the Prophet (May Allah find enjoyment in his moonwalk) Or, if you "have to" "hit" a women, do it with a cotton swab. Like suggested in the texts. So it has nothing to do with beating but rather with having fun and a good laugh. Many examples.
