Considering he said he would have to supervise the translations of his monthly website stories if those become a thing, I don't think he cares about transitioning from his supervisor/jobber/fixer role to a full-on creative role at the moment. Maybe a DLC expansion pack, since that's what the Forces Shadow DLC was, but a full game? So far unlikely, and for all intents and purposes he seems to like Ian Flynn's output just fine and is also his boss. Sorry haters, might be good time to jump ship to a new fandom right about now.

Anyway, I sympathize with the #Toyoda4Sonic crowd to a degree, but I think it's a little misguided and it's clear the crowd trying to make it "a thing" has no idea how anything works. Toyoda literally already is 4 Sonic. He has been 4 Sonic for 26 years. I think if he wanted to do the things the crowd so desperately wants him to do, he would've done it long ago. But he will not, because he's already holding important positions of supervising the Japanese scripts and texts for both the games and the side material, directing the dialogue recording, and taking part in community initiatives on Twitter and the official website. Wanting better writing in your Sonic game is obviously fair and nice and good, but asking this one guy to take on more workload on top of everything else he's doing is just stupid.
