As a basic-ass white guy, if I go to a Mexican restaurant, should I attempt to pronounce things that I order with my best attempt at the Spanish pronunciation, or should I just do the anglicised versions?
While Spanish-speakers usually will face-palm at Whitey feeling "international" for using the three words he remembers from high school and Dora the Explorer, and smugly going "hola" "por favor" "gracias" and the rest in super heavy 'MURICAN (don't be THAT guy) 😆 Nobody is going to slap you in disgust for not rolling your Rs or for not saying "MEH-hee-koh," don't worry.
I'd recommend just doing your best to learn how it's supposed to be pronounced and do an approximation. Anglicised is totally fine, as long as you're not goddamn Bob and Karen saying "tortiLa" "guacamoL" and "PoLo" 🤣
