Assuming a job is non-optional, and you already have whatever training or education you need, what job would you choose to do? What job do you think would make you the happiest?
Boy, that is a HUGE assumption. Doing a lot of heavy lifting there. π
It's actually a really hard question. I don't exactly have a "career path" planned nor do I have a passion when it comes to work.
When I was a teenager I wanted to make video games, so I went to a two-year course that was supposed to teach me programming but, little by little, the curriculum was shifted into basic-ass, generic "computer stuff" and that school turned out to be a bit scammy (long story.)
In my early 20s I was strongly considering medical school but life (and, if I'm honest, my neurofuckiness) got in the way and that never got close to being able to happen.
I've only taken a couple of jobs and they were just whatever was practical. Typical go-to options: check-out clerk and customer service agent.
So, I think I've stalled enough and I'm still not able to answer it. At least I know one damn thing is clear: it would be something where the goddamn public would STAY THE CRAP AWAY from me. π
I've sometimes wondered what it would be like to hold elected office or practice law. Would I be able to fight for social justice or would I get destroyed by the corrupt system, if I ever got anywhere in the first place. My partner and I have even thought about going into (ugh) "content creation" because "damn it, we would do it right" but that's not a realistic option for 99.99% of those who go into it. And even though looking at the garbage that has found success is downright demoralising, it's still like winning the lottery.
Thanks for the question, mentally-draining as it was π I'm sorry I can't repay you with an actual, proper answer but even with your caveat of ignoring lack of training and education, I can't think of anything that would make me happy. So far, I've only seen jobs as something mundane I had to get so I could buy m'stuff ('cause CAPITALISM!), not something I derive satisfaction from, let alone happiness.
If I ever figure out an answer, I promise to post it on Mastodon. Deal? π
