One of the most unintentionally hurtful random things someone ever said to me was when I was joking around about how I would date Dorian from Dragon Age, and they said "yeah but Dorian wouldn't date YOU because you're not a man." It's been about a decade and I occasionally think about that and whether it's really antithetical to identifying as "gay" to be attracted to NB people. Of course identity and terminology are up to each person to determine, but I'm curious about your thoughts, fellow queer! -L
That sucks. π
Don't listen to the nay-sayers, bro. I'm quite confident in your ability to successfully and quite homosexually bone down with ANY character of ANY gender in all of media. π
I sometimes wonder if I might be doing cis gay men some sort of "disservice" by having changed my personal terminology to "pan" instead of "gay" and "demimale" and "genderqueer" instead of "cis."
Why do I feel the need to change how I identify, simply because I'm also attracted to enbies and trans peeps? Why does being a little outside traditional gender norms mean I must stop calling myself "cis"? and WHY am I choosing to conform to the established societal notion that a man can't like more femme-aligned clothing or have a not-feminine-yet-not-strictly-masculine gender expression?
Shouldn't I be the example that boys don't HAVE to like guns and sports and roughhousing? Should I not take a stand against archaic patriarchal expectations of men everywhere? It's an interesting dilemma. π€
...or it would be, if I weren't now way too GODDAMN old to give a flying crap anymore. π I found something about myself after several decades of being in this "C+ AT BEST" spinning wet rock that caused everything to click and make sense in a very surprising way and I couldn't be more intrigued and excited to continue exploring. I don't have room in my schedule to care about what will they think of me. That goes both for the right-wing bigots or for any "um, actually" gender nerds who might tell me "UR DOIN IT RONG." π I'm sure the non-conforming cishets will find another worthy champion to fight society's gender hegemony. I'm too busy being gay for stuff.
I am that I am, for that which I am... is ME. π
And to come full circle, I think "gay" is not just a sexual preference. It is a much broader state of being. So, you wonderful nonbinary self can 100% be gay for anyone and anything. π
That's the thing about gay bitches like us. π We, the Fae, transcend such petty mortal affairs as "gender" and "sexuality."
