Do you have a preference as a writer for either posting a story as a threadfic or on AO3? Also, same question as a reader, would you prefere one over the other?
As a writer, I treat threadfics like an exercise or a warmup. A quick way to get my brainrot out without having it to be really polished, and if I like the idea then I may use it for a longer fic later on. It's also something I can use to get into the writing mood, so threadfics do have merits in that regards. :>
As a reader, I read threadfics when I want a quick read (for example during my commute) or if it looks cute/entertaining. I am also not as critical of threadfics because usually they're not meant to be perfectly polished. Ao3 fics is for the more interesting or intricate plots to me, where it can really deep dive into the story, so in the end it makes for a more satisfying read. :'D
I hope this isn't a rude question. Just curious, what do you writers usually talk about with each other in terms of writing-related topics?
Ahh probably our ever-growing WIPs, why we keep signing up for writing challenges like we don't already have a bunch of stuff piling up waiting to be written etc. :'D Sometimes also exchanging snippets just to get second opinions (or just to tease?). Discussing about sprinting together or expanding on ideas? It's pretty normal.
But oh, my usual beta-reader happens to also be an architect so if I ask her something about Kaveh's work (for fic purposes) I could end up getting 4-screenshot worth of rant it's quite funny. Sometimes I want to use her rant for Kaveh in fics. XDD
AO3 IS DOWN YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY
since ao3 is down... what kind of things do you usually read or watch?
Outside of fanfics? I actually love reading and watching horror/survival :'D I like the weird and the bizarre. My tolerance for gore is also pretty good... I love sad ghost stories just as much as I love the weird stuff Junji Ito ever came up with (I read almost everything from him lmao). :'D
Oh, I also love scifi-ish stuff or post-apocalypse stuff like 7Seeds (I read the manga, it's way better imo) and Shin Sekai Yori (Now this, I prefer the anime).
Do you have any tips for someone who want to write stories but has no confident in doing so, and is afraid of people's perception on the story?
If you want to write stories just as a form of expression or a hobby, just start writing what's in your head. Then show it to one or two close friends (it'd be better if they also write or an avid reader) whose opinion you trust. Ask them to be gentle with their criticism and see where you can improve. Showing our writing to someone else is like showing a part of ourselves, so in that sense, it puts us in a vulnerable position, so I know how scary it could be. That's why I think it helps to show your work to someone you know and trust first before throwing it into the wild that is the internet. :')
Reading a lot also helps to get a good sense of story structure and pacing. To be a good writer, it's important to "feed" ourselves with different types of stories and writing to enrich our vocabs and prose, which then will help us to develop our writing style. :)
Hope that helps! If you have any follow up questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
hi aeryn ilu hope the writing is going well! what is your dream cynari fic? like, to read, to write, something you pray exists in the ether so you don't gotta write it yourself?
Thanks, Clover! The writing went pretty good after the initial sleepiness and the following self-doubt. XD
As for dream cynari fic... a hanahaki fic with Tighnari putting his reputation in the Amurta to use, finding a way to beat the disease without having to confess for as long as he could just to spite the disease (they are in the slowest of slow burn because both are responsible adults with important jobs, you know?). I just want to see stubborn scholar Tighnari vs Hanahaki. So instead of focusing on his one-sided(?) feelings, he'd focus on researching the disease, using himself as a subject (because let's be real, he WOULD do that).
I actually read something like this before, but it was more of a lighthearted approach. I'd love to see a more serious take delving into the pseudo-science of Hanahaki with Tighnari leading the research while suffering from the disease himself. Of course this should have a happy ending, hehe... (This is something I wanna read btw, I do not have enough braincells to write this myself xp)
Do you have any haikaveh fic ideas that you actually want to write but you need to set it aside for now for whatever reason?
I have a lot... Some of those include:
1. Faranak sudden visit to Sumeru, but since Kaveh has been directing her letters to the "Scribe's office", she doesn't know where he lives now and goes to look for Scribe Alhaitham instead.
2. Another leyline shenanigans where post-AQ hkvh BOTH got thrown into the past and met their freshly-fallen out selves.
3. Finishing up my Hanahaki fic, actually, coz I am proud of what I have so far.
4. The 4ggravate coffee shop AU where cnnr and hkvh would each get their own fic (but within the same setting).
And the reason I need to set it aside for now is simply because I have too many projects with deadlines. My WIP list is too long right now for the next 2 months... :'(
Your young-Alhaitham-kinda-goes-to-the-future fic changed my life and istg I now need to see more fanarta of young Haitham with his akademiya hat :') Idk how future Kaveh didnt get a cuteness aggression because the picture I see in my mind is the cutest thing ever-
Thank you for writing such a masterpiece :')
On a totally different note: It's so sad that Kaveh didnt get to meet Alhaitham's grandma because I'm so sure she would have straight up adopted him, she would feed him so much food because he was too skinny and get excited because Kaveh could keep up with Alhaitham (it would have been reassuring to know that they would have each other after her death)...Sorry for yapping, it's just that it'd have been so good if they got to meet eqch other :'c
Aah, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed that one; it was something I'd been wanting to write.. <33 Thank you for appreciating my work. <333
I do believe Kaveh would have had cuteness aggression if his guilt wasn't overshadowing it. :') Deep down though, I believed Kaveh wanted nothing more than to squeeze those cheeks! :'D
I agree with you! If Alhaitham's grandmother was still around, she would have taken Kaveh in... I feel like Faranak must have known Alhaitham's grandmother, being a Kshahrewar. Maybe she was one of Faranak's professor, even... if she was still around, grandmother would have offered assistance to Faranak so Kaveh wouldn't have been neglected... at least that's what I thought. So hkvh could have met a lot sooner too and be childhood friends to lover (my fave trope ever!). Hmm, maybe a canon divergence fic like this would be nice to read. :'D
Don't apologize for yapping! I love reading other people's HC (and possibly add to it where I could). Thank you for this sweet ask! <333
Do you ever imagine nobody attenting Alhaitham's graduation, so 4ggravate decide years later to throw a belated graduation Party (especially Kaveh), to make up the time they weren't there for him? And when Kaveh gives a speech Alhaitham looks like he doesn't care, but in truth he feels like crying
Oh dear, I did imagine (and wrote about) Alhaitham not attending his own graduation because no one would be there anyway. (I'll post a screenshot and link on twt!) but the idea of 4grravate throwing a graduation party for him later on is so endearing. 🥹🥹
As for your idea, I imagine it could start like this: Kaveh, probably either drunk or tipsy during their dinner night (Haitham wasn't there for some reason) and told them that one of his biggest regrets is letting Alhaitham be alone on his graduation day, knowing full well he didn't have anyone else. (Perhaps at that time, freshly wounded and trying to get by while grieving their lost "friendship" in his own way, it didn't occur to Kaveh, or it just completely skipped his mind. Then later, when they were already on a friendlier term, the topic of graduation came up and Alhaitham just casually said "I didn't go, there was no one anyway.")
Then, later when they meet while Kaveh is sober, Tighnari mentioned about what Kaveh said that night and asked if he wanted to do anything about it? And then it would be cute if it was actually Collei's idea to throw Alhaitham a graduation party (maybe on the same day of Collei's celebration party for being accepted into the Akademiya?) So Alhaitham only knew they were going to Collei's party, only to have it turned into his (very belated) graduation party right after.
And yes, Kaveh definitely would be the one giving the speech since he was the only one who knew of Alhaitham's student days. Alhaitham would probably comment how silly it is, but he's trying so hard not to tear up. And maybe later, in the privacy of their home, Alhaitham would pull Kaveh into a hug and whisper, "Thank you."
Alright this is turning into a mini fic, thank you for the brainrot though! I love it! <333333
what is your dream haikaveh fic? If you had infinite time and writer's drive?
oh damn Clover I have so much ideas I need to write aaa... My dream atp is finishing them all. But hmm maybe there are two I'd like to write until finished:
1) My Hanahaki fic. I am really proud of the way I integrated the concept into Teyvat's lore. (Love playing with lore you know XD) and I do want to see it through. Definitely need infinite time and drive coz one of the reasons it was on hiatus was because I started questioning if it was good enough or if I needed to rewrite a bit....
2) The beta!Alhaitham and alpha!Kaveh slice of life fics. I can feel it. It's gonna be long because slice of life is my jam...
what era of haikaveh do you like the most?
PoP era altered my brain chemistry!! The way we could see in real time how their relationship slowly progresses... the way Alhaitham would tease Kaveh mercilessly yet immediately fold when Kaveh got upset for real... We also get to know the little things like Alhaitham would talk out loud when he's scribbling and how he'd leave documents out if he wants Kaveh to read them (implied). The "leaving notes in a language only they know". The "expecting Kaveh to bring leftovers" and "Kaveh actually ordered new food to bring home". These little peeks in their life is just so UGH!! Also of course the "earnest thanks". That was such a journey, I'm so sad it wasn't a permanent content...
why aren't you close friends with other writers? there seems to be different friend groups of writers, you don't seem to be in one?
uhm? I consider all of my moots as friends. :') Anyways if you mean I don't LOOK like I interact much with them, we have privs and some of us talk in private (discord/other messaging apps). How do I say this, my friendships don't have to be public? :')
THAT SAID if any moots want my discord or anything feel free to DM! :D
Where do you think Alhaitham will propose to Kaveh?
tbh I'm a fan of a very lowkey, "realistic" proposal for them. Like they're both in their late 20s (probably early 30s depending on when this happens), already have a long history, tired of dancing around that line dividing whatever they were post-POP to this new established third thing so I feel like one day Alhaitham would just casually mentioning it during dinner at home. Something like, "I'd like to have a life like this with you for the rest of my life, would you like that?" :'D
What's your favorite place in Sumeru?
Hmm this is hard. Probably Vanarana (dream), Orchard of Pairidaeza, and Vourukasha Oasis for photo-taking purposes. I also love landmarks like Pardis Dhyai and of course Palace of Alcazarzaray. :'D
But also, I often love a place based on its soundtrack, and the Girdle of the Sands area has some of my favorite overworld music.
are there any tropes you love but dont use often in your works?
childhood friends to lover! It's one of my fave tropes ever but I have not had the opportunity to write it in hkvh. I plan to, though! :D also coffee shop AU. I also like celebrities/actors/idols AU, but has zero confident trying to write them :').
Tbh I'm very basic with the tropes I like, but I think the fun in it is how to make them fit the characters/ships instead of the other way around. :3
