Chuuya is filthy rich meaning that he can afford practically anything he wants at anytime and ofc he uses this fact to spoil his mackeral.

Dazai, on the other hand, is the very definition of poor. Not only is his agency pay shit, he also tends to waste his money on drugs and alcohol using the remaining amount for shitty food that barely has any nutrients and is hardly sustainable.

So imagine Dazai actually saving up to buy Chuuya something special. More specifically a very expensive ring made of 24k gold. He might not fully understand love or the norms associated with it, but he loves Chuuya and while he doesn't always show it, he wants to have a physical representation of their bond. This gift would be an unspoken tie for them. (He wouldn't even tell Chuuya, he'd probably just leave it under his pillow or some shit without mentioning it anytime afterwards.)

I feel like Chuuya wouldn't wear it bc of his job and maybe a fear of losing it, but he would keep it somewhere special. Especially if Dazai ended up dying shortly after leaving that little gift behind.

I WASN'T EXPECTING AN ANGSTY ENDING this is soooo chef kiss 💯

i don't want to raise any false hopes but... may i turn this into a threadfic? no pressure of course (i'd also like to credit you if i actually end up writing something 👀)

btw i like to think dazai would gift him something unserious in a truly serious™ way, like, imagine the agency saves an artisan and dazai discovers they create personalised glasses and cups... so he commissions a slug-shaped wine glass (which ends up being expensive because it's handmade). everyone thinks it's a prank, but dazai is deadly serious.

chuuya facepalms when he actually sees the personalised wine glass and tells dazai he's a total idiot, then he realises the actual meaning behind dazai's gesture and... chuuya still calls him an idiot, but affectionately this time (he drinks from that glass more than he'd like to admit)
