Can we pitch more than one idea if we have several?
We don't see why not! You're welcome to brainstorm among fellow contributors and mods to help yourself narrow down your thoughts.
would the name we enter in the application be the name used privately during the making of the zine or the name we would be referred to publicly?
Privately! During formatting, we will collect information to publicly credit our contributors— you're free to use a different name then.
Whats the song in the promo video? Is it an orginal made by staff or an existing song?
Silly Billy Cupid by Centurion Cee!
Would we be allowed to put in the zine illustrations in our portfolio and/or post them online before zine release?
You may use your contributions in portfolios before release, as long as they are not accessible to the public. Please do not post them online before then.
Hello! I'd like to ask if a portfolio is necessary? And also can the portfolio have the same pieces as the samples + others? Thank you!
It is required! Mods review your samples first, and use the portfolio when needed. But your samples and portfolio can overlap, so long as they meet the requirements!
Do you accept filegarden links for art examples? Asking mainly cause its not an extremely popular filesharing site, but it does literally just take you to the image
As long as the mod team can access your samples without needing an account, a password, access requests, etc., any file-sharing method is fine by us!
While it is good that you are saying that now but I think you should have been upfront about wanting to create the zine physical for your own personal use from the start before applications opened. Not everyone will want to have their work printed out. It also feels a bit unfair for the head mod only to get a copy of the physical zine while everyone else doesn't. I'm not saying that the zine should turn around to be a physical option or anything either as that is not a good strategy to change your zine that drastically. Just that not everyone will agree to that decision and this should have been stated from the start of the zine.
We understand that, and apologize for the lack of transparency! While this information was established on our info doc, it is now stated on Carrd as well, and addressed in more detail on our social media.
For clarification, the head mod is printing the zine for an assignment, on which only her work will be graded. As stated before, we understand contributors may be uncomfortable with this, and we are absolutely open to having their work removed from printing, but still included in the official, digital zine release. This print is not for compensation purposes, as yes, this is not feasible for the project and its team, however, contributors are also fully welcome to print their own personal copies.
Thank you for bringing the issue to our attention, and again, our apologies, but we hope this clears things up a little!
If this zine will be a digital PDF, is there a reason you're asking for pieces to be done in CMYK? Thank you!
Our head mod is printing a copy of the zine for personal use. We'll discuss more with our contributors, but of course, anyone not comfortable with this usage is more than welcome to opt out.
hello! would a writing sample of 2.6k be accepted?
Yes! 1k - 2.5k words for samples is a range based on our contribution requirements, but you're welcome to go a little bit outside that. Just try to stick within 100 to 200 words of the limit!
Hello! Would it be okay to submit a gallery (as a portfolio) which technically does contain a couple suggestive/not fully SWF pieces, but they are not fully visible from the thumbnails, are clearly marked as what they are and are otherwise impossible to see unless you purposefully choose to?
Yes, as long as these pieces are hidden with content warnings, and more than half of your portfolio is SFW.
with "Do you have any ideas for the zine?" do you mean pitches of a potential piece you'd like to do or general ideas for the zine? I'm assuming the first one but I want to make sure haha
Pitches for your piece! But if you do have suggestions for the overall zine, you're welcome to (respectfully) include them in our form.
hello! would brief depictions of bars and intoxication--done in a safe manner--count as nsfw? is it best to avoid these topics completely? thank you!
No, this does not count as NSFW and is permissible. You may include a content warning, however.
some of my prospective sample pieces--as a writer--include mild language/expletives, but are otherwise safe for general audiences. the instances are few and far between, and they are not derogatory terms. does this count as NSFW?
Language is fine! You may include a content warning, however, especially if this language could be interpreted as suggestive.
hello! i applied for a mod position but didn't receive a result email (i checked spam and everything). is there a way to get in touch for my result/to have the email sent again?
Sorry, everything looks correct on our end! Please reach out to us at the email provided in our Carrd, and we can confirm your result for you!
What is the word count for writer applications if someone is interested in writing something like drabbles or poetry?
Shortform samples may be 100–500 words. However, please also provide an example of longer work, ranging 1k-2.5k words in length!
