When it came to asking artists to do spritework/BG work, how did you approach them and what advice do you have for seeking artists for VN work?

So here was my process.

  1. I scouted for artists. I was keenly interested in folks who were making FVN fan art. I made a list of my favorites who didn't seem to have any active projects they're working on.

  2. I got together a portfolio of character art I had gotten of my characters and some other assets. I wanted to show everyone I was serious.

  3. I went into their DM's and just asked them! I let them know I was looking for BG, Sprite, & CG artists, showed them some of the work I put into the VN to show that I was serious, and asked if they wanted to come on board.

  4. I interviewed everyone on a discord call just to get a vibe of their skills, strengths, weaknesses, expectations, etc.

  5. After interviewing everyone, I gave the ones I liked the most an offer! Rest is history u.u

One last thing I want to mention is that if you treat your artists well, they'll treat you well. I'm always very mindful of giving specific, direct, and polite feedback as much as possible, ALWAYS pay on time, and lean into their strengths as much as possible.
