Two follow up questions regarding finding artists. I was wondering, firstly, if you commissioned other artists beforehand for your characters and then presented them to the artist(s) you were interested in. Secondly, I was wondering what kind of information you gave them to show them they were serious (e.g. character art, a script (if so what length), etc.)? Sorry for the long questions by the way, I just want to make the right steps when I start out
Feel free to ask anything about development. Always happy to help!
So I did commission tons of other artists to make my characters before I recruited anyone for my team. You can go back in the media tab on the Twitter account and see all of them! This was important for the character design process. I wanted to to collect tons of reference material. I showed them to my artists when I interviewed them so they could get a feel for what kind of characters I'd ask them to draw.
I show them the characters and talked to them about the script. I would have shown them my script if they asked, but they didn't so I kept it to myself. I also talked about my plans to publish on itch and my plans to develop in RenPy.
