‘disgustingly self indulgent’ is how you should write everything!! nothing is meant for everyone and if someone doesn’t like it then it just wasn’t meant for them! it’s a guaranteed losing game trying to write something (especially if it’s based off real people) in a way that EVERYONE will agree with and second guessing your own choices to the point you’re trying to write it how other people will like instead even if that’s not what you wanted will only make it so that you’re the one who hates it. don’t prioritise other peoples preferences over your own when doing your hobby!! you don’t get paid to please them, it’s them that’s getting the privilege of being allowed to also enjoy what you made
imagine you’re writing a fic for a friend as a gift and they’re sooo happy and excited they REALLLYY wanted this one! so you ask them exactly how they want it, then you go write it but change so much of it that it’s not what they wanted anymore and then you look at your friend and say “but some strangers on the internet wouldn’t have liked it that way and i’d rather please as many of them as i can than you” don’t do that to yourself!!!! write it how you enjoy it and then gift it to yourself with a kiss
kitty youre so right id be SO upset if someone wrote a fic for me but then said that internet strangers wouldnt have liked it and changed accordingly. i think you healed a little part of me with this thank you .. i will write it.. this isnt even the case of me trying to please everyone, this might just be so ... its like .. grabs you by the shoulders. its silly. its okay youll forget about it if i ever write and finish it, im just feeling like theres so many eyes at me while im writing, perceiving me.... its like. I feel like if if i write this Theyll Know. Who'll know? strangers on the internet that already know what im into?? (checks my tags on ao3) this really isnt anything different than what i already so freely presented online. big sigh . im being so cryptic because id feel too vulnerable using my words. thank you though !! youre so kind
