while pregzai was definitely milking the whole being pregnant thing to get out of work and chores, i doubt he’s fully processed what comes /after/ pregnancy. especially i think dazai would have a lot of struggles with parenthood once it happens.. holding fragile babies in his arms and feeling /so much/ it overwhelms him. he never imagined once he could even have kids, and now he’s got twins in his arms. over the first few weeks he’s scared to go near them, he’s suddenly tired every time chuuya suggests doing something with the kids and giving all the baby-related chores to chuuya. the guilt racks up more and more, seeing the brief hurt on chuuya’s faces. they’re the epitome of miscommunication (it’s even how dazai got pregnant in the first place. an accident.) but chuuya says he’s fine, happy even, to hang out with their babies. until eventually, months after they’ve been born, chuuya has to go back to work and dazai’s left to care for them alone. it’s horrible, in short. the babies cry moments after chuuya leaves, and dazai cannot get them to calm down even after trying all the methods he’d read about in that parenting book and ones chuuya told him work. then comes the awful feelings and thoughts as he realises his own kids don’t even see him as a parent.. he can’t even do anything because he’s not chuuya - he’s not the one they want. still he blatantly refuses to call chuuya not even a few hours after he’s left, so he just waits for them to stop crying. the next two days are the exact same, dazai’s trying his hardest and it’s not enough still because these babies want their /dad/ not.. a stranger. once chuuya returns, his apartment is a mess and he’s not sure if dazai or the kids look worse for wear. there’s deep bags under dazai’s and eyes - he looks like he needs to sleep for a week at least. the creaking of chuuya opening the door wakes up one, and then follows the other. chuuya takes the screeching babies and they calm down immediately, ceasing their incessant crying—now dazai’s the one with tears rolling down his face, wondering why he’s so /bad/ at this. he’s not built for parenthood like chuuya is - watching the redhead rock their kids to sleep. once they’ve quietened down, chuuya floats them into the crates and returns to dazai, pulling him into his chest so dazai can finally sleep.
Oh my god I’m sobbing goodbye. Dazai would want so badly for his little ones to take to him like they take to Chuuya, he’d beat himself up endlessly wondering where along the way he went wrong. Because ultimately, it’s always his fault isn’t it? It only makes sense because everything he ever wants never works out no matter how badly he hopes for it
