Ngl, I'm a sucker for open endings so I don't usually think much beyond the ending line. I like that there are a lot of possibilities and the reader can chose what they want from the stories, but I also like hinting hopeful or sad endings. In this case, and since the fic is so full of yearning, I wanted homin not only to be hopeful but also have a real chance to be free again, so I wrote the ending with that in mind. So yeah I think they managed to be free and hopefully happy, what the do from that is up to them (or the reader)
