when he shuts it down, its clear that thoma has nowhere to go and would probably end up back in sex work again even if he chose to do it this time because at this point he doesnt really have any other skills or experiences to get a legitimate job. not to mention he doesnt have any legal paperwork to be in the country. so ayato offers him a job and help him sort out his documents (or help him get back to mondstadt safely if he no longer wishes to stay in inazuma). despite what hes been through, thoma still is a bright and optimistic person and nobody would be able to guess his history. and nobody who is aware dares to talk about it, either. nor is he really the kind of person that became tougher due to trauma, but having a sense of purpose and duty to the kamisatos gives him something to make order out of and feel like his suffering wasnt in vain because he ended up in the right place.
