Hi there! Are there any skills or prerequisite requirements for those applying for mod positions? If so, what are they, for the different mod positions? i.e. who/what is the ideal candidate and what will their responsibilities be?
Hi!
For all positions, while experience moderating a zine isn't required, any experience in positions of authority for similar things like fests or non fandom related projects is very good. This doesn't have to be in the same role, however it's a bonus if it is. Having been a participant in multiple zines is also a plus.
For specific roles, this is all explained in the form for each position, but here it is as well.
Art mods need to have a decent grasp of anatomy, colour, and composition so they're able to make suggestions and give help to art contributors if asked. (examples of their own artwork can display this.) You'll also be expected to be the main point of contact for art contributors and to help keep the art contributor side of things organised and running smoothly.
Writing mods should preferably have some experience with beta reading/editorial work either in fandom or outside of it. Writing mods are expected to be fluent in written English as this is the language the zine is in, and able to give advice, when asked, on issues including grammar, story flow, plot, general writing help and beta reading, etc. You'll also be expected to be the main point of contact for writing contributors and to help keep the writing contributor side of things organised and running smoothly.
The Graphics and Layout Moderator is expected to be able to design and create the layout for the digital PDF of the zine. This includes putting the PDF together in it's final form and making any edits to the layout and contents within. You will also be expected to help create graphics to be posted on social media to help promote the zine including things such as but not limited to:
- interest check results
- contributor apps
- contributor list
- guest spotlights
- contributor spotlights
- mod intros
- pre-orders
are your google forms down? :o i can't seem to access them
heya! the forms are still up and accepting responses on my end! i got a friend to check and they work for them too.
hi there! I'm just wondering if we could apply to be both a mod and a contributor?
Hiya! Moderators will be offered a spot in the zine as a contributor if they want it. If you don't get in as a mod you're always welcome to apply as a contributor when that opens!
Silly question…what’s a zine
zine is short for magazine, and in this case is also short for fanzine. They're self published collections of works based around fandom, most are for one fandom (in our case BTS) but some have crossovers like Animal Crossing x BTS. They often have another theme on top, like basing the works inside the zine around a word or colour palette or vibe. They most often contain art and fanfic. some also have comics and poetry and crafts. If they're SFW they're usually printed into actual magazine style books. some NSFW ones are too but there's a lot of logistics around shipping physical NSFW content around the world so more and more often NSFW content is either in an add on PDF, or in our case the entire zine will be a digital PDF.
the 'debauchery' writing is so beautiful! did you letter it by hand or is it a font?
It is rather pretty isn't it! It's a font called 'Playlist Script' that Canva has. 😁
what type of contributors will be brought into this zine? will it be purely artists or will there also be nsfw writers, moodboardists, etc.?
For sure there will be writers and artists. There may possibly be merch artists and other creatives like moodboard artists but that's something that will be discussed with other moderators once they've been brought on!
The zine sounds interesting but there are too many zines happening right now. 😞 I already know that I will be unable to buy it if it runs this year since I already planned out my budget. Is there any way you might push the schedule back? It also seems kind of unfair to zines that are already running.
There will also be more zines running next year. If we held off running it for that reason, we'd unfortunately be in exactly the same situation next year, if not an even more busy one because there are always more and more zines popping up as fandoms grow and more people get the experience and confidence to make them. This is also why there's a field in the interest check to see what time of the year would be best to run the zine! The end of that period would be the time people can aim to save for if they want to buy it! 💜
Why email is required for interest check? aren't they supposed to be anonymous?
Hello! I set it to collect emails so it can be limited to one response per email address, and so that anyone who wanted to be emailed about pre-orders opening would be. But I've turned off the mandatory email collection now and replaced it with an optional one for this! Anyone who entered an email but selected no to being emailed about pre-orders will have their email deleted. - 🦌
