Hi, Ana! Idk how to preface this so maybe I'll just get to the point. After seeing ur thread abt fandom entitlement - which I agree with 100% - I got to thinking. I think we can all agree that capitalism n its various comorbid diseases - fast-paced consumption, commodification of art, etc - are to blame for the current state of fandom. While I don't think all English-speaking fans are entitled pieces of shit, I think there's a reason why the English-speaking (esp the monolingual English speakers) side of the fandom are worse when it comes to entitlement within fandoms. The English-speaking side of fandoms are so used to having things catered to them that they find it a given when their favorite shows come w/ both English subtitles & dubbing, their favorite BL translated into English, and their favorite fanfics written in English. Even though I fully acknowledge that using English in fandom spaces is convenient, I can't help feeling that we've been coddling the English-speaking side of fandoms for far too long that some of them - the worst actors - don't bother w/ fandom etiquette. Some proudly, smugly disrespect said fandom etiquette on the basis of being more "progressive". I'm not wholly against fandoms evolving, but I always get the ick every time a monolingual English speaker disregard n disrespect fandom etiquettes commonly found in Asian fandoms. It's giving...colonizer. But maybe that's just me. Idk if u agree w/ me, Ana, but maybe this is a discussion worth-having esp between ppl in fandom spaces whose first language isn't English.

Anyways sorry for rambling in ur retro.....I wish u a very pleasant day/evening, wherever u are.

hello, hello! ♥️ i agree with you, and there are several aspects of it, but ultimately, it boils down to entitlement and wanting spaces that have existed long before you to conform to you (not you specifically, but). very individualistic, which is a core tenet of western society, so it's not too surprising, just annoying. but thank you for sharing your thoughts!
