tags are literally optional on ao3 lol if a work doesn't have enough tags u don't have to read it! u can just not read it. and if u don't like a fic u can just close the tab. that's also fandom etiquette! strangers cannot always be responsible for ur triggers or squicks

  1. You're just blatantly incorrect if you're referring to the archive warnings tags. AO3 even says it themselves in their guide to tagging, "AO3 requires that creators either warn for—or explicitly choose not to warn for—a short list of common warnings." It means exactly what it says. You can either use a specific SET of tags, or notify that you may not use them, but they might be in the fic. This does not apply to all tags, but the tag it DOES apply to are the following: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con, and Underage. If you don't want to use those tags, then you use "Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings." THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY OTHER TAGGING OF YOUR FIC. JUST ARCHIVE WARNINGS.

  2. "you can just not read it." omg exactly. that's what im trying to do actually!! tag it so i know i dont want to read it. "not having enough tags" isn't the issue and you'd know that if you paid attention to my post. some fics have a LOT of tags but they're tagging incorrectly, or authors are purposefully leaving some things out. this is not just an "add more tags" situation, this is a "tag correctly. fix your tags." moment.

  3. "strangers cannot always be responsible for ur triggers or squicks" so anyway here's ao3's guide to tagging for you, i hope this helps 🖤 https://archiveofourown.org/faq/tags?language_id=en
