Hey! If you're comfortable with answering questions about your past pregnancy, do you mind if I ask how hrt affected you during it? Did you have to stop, and did you find it hard to be trans and pregnant?
i dont mind at all! :)
i did have to stop, not only because taking T can cause some minor birth defects in XX babies (what i was told, anyways), but because i wasnt menstruating at that point on T! and i took i think three months to start menstruating again
i didnt find it hard being trans + pregnant-- i had always wanted to be pregnant and personally none of that was affected by my transness ♥️ i will say that i did experience some dysphoria but just in the way my face was feminized during pregnancy... you keep most everything after stopping T if youve been on it for a long time but pregnancy kinda reverses everything and i did Not know this would be the case LOL

Any updates on using minoxidil?
I've been using it on my chest ( 5% solution was way too drying for my face sobsob) for ~2 months and noticing more new hairs + all my hair getting darker :o

Oooooh Naomi Chainey did a good mini essay in 2013 bout the appropriation of spoon theory. ( Don't love the line on racism tho and it's obvious the writer has never experienced the social fatigue of Being Racialized In A White Supremacist Society but thats kinda a sidebar!) The depth of the metaphor, units of energy that are depleted in ANY ACTIVITY no matter how 'tiny' and oftentimes are replenished unpredictability and not perfectly in alignment with rest... We coulda had something very useful here re: talking about how chronic illness shapes your life and is always always impacting how u spend your time....idk hope that's not a weird ramble! Ok real about the spoon theory thing bc online MFS truly make everything potentially useful in Specific Cases so incredibly lame and self-centered....augh. we could have had something very useful but 100000 Tumblr users with anxiety occured.
Christine Miserandino basically uses spoons as a very informal metaphor re: non-renewable energy units that get depleted through the day in a early 2000s essay talkin bout how her lupus impacts her day-to-day. It's an okay essay, very personal and IMO worth a read today. Spoon theory kinda stayed within disability / chronic illness Haver online circles for a few years 2003~2010, very tangled into and an important part of early discussions bout ' invisible disabilities' . Imo it's a neat historical on disability politics but it does make me deeply sad how diluted and meaningless these terms have become. So it goes.
I know it's just words but kinda pisses off when abled people use 'low spoons' to describe being like. tired, as this tends to come with a complete lack of understanding or compassion towards disabled ppl and the undercuts potential gravity that a tool like spoon theory COULD have for describing one's personal limits caused by da disability. But that's just my opinion and I'm a proud Bitter Crip Bitch so. Shrug.
ive read the essay! although tbh its been years. and i was there in the early days of tumblr (on it from 2009-2019) and i saw with my own eyes the term get totally bastardized and used as a way to avoid accountability/just be a shithead... alas. i can only hope most of the people doing that were just stupid teens (as all teens are) but i know in my hearts heart it wasnt. i know it wasnt

Hi again this is the anon who does not relate to fictional characters! I have recently learned my wife thinks young Al Pacino is 'cute' so i am adding Dog Day Afternoon (1975) and Scarface (1983) to the movie watch list to see how ya boy does.

OOOH okay my favorite fact about the production of DDA is that the entire first day of filming had to be scrapped because pacino grew a moustache to "look more gay" and everything thought it looked Just Awful. id love to see pictures of the stache cut soooo bad but i dont think any exist (i can just look at pictures from serpico and pretend, though ♥)
for scarface, pacinos accent made me cringe pretty hard the first time i watched because well. hes a white boy from the bronx BUT apparently he worked really close with actual cubans during the filming to make sure his accent was as accurate as he could make it and apparently its pretty damn good! which makes rewatches significantly more bearable
also both movies are x500 more fun to watch believing that theyre both transsexuals. like it just Makes Sense

I just rewatched Cruising with some friends bc of you and damn I still have dense and complicated feelings about that movie but it was great group watch/discussion! So thank you !
Honestly a lil sad and wistful to learn that some extras in the club scenes in Cruising were just gay dudes in the 70s leather scene. Out of everything you can say abt that movie, seeing a sliver of pre-AIDS gay life thru Just Some Normal Ass Guys who were regulars the Mineshaft. kinda just hit me A Way.
Even in larger cities, it just makes me sad that bdsm clubs of all sorts have dwindled and it's mainly room parties lmfao.
Jack Fritscher has written a lot about the Mineshaft in particular and I used to have a 77' issue of Drummer mag tht featured the club ( bear-centric article, tragically lost). I just think it's Neat 🐻
