I just rewatched Cruising with some friends bc of you and damn I still have dense and complicated feelings about that movie but it was great group watch/discussion! So thank you !
Honestly a lil sad and wistful to learn that some extras in the club scenes in Cruising were just gay dudes in the 70s leather scene. Out of everything you can say abt that movie, seeing a sliver of pre-AIDS gay life thru Just Some Normal Ass Guys who were regulars the Mineshaft. kinda just hit me A Way.
Even in larger cities, it just makes me sad that bdsm clubs of all sorts have dwindled and it's mainly room parties lmfao.
Jack Fritscher has written a lot about the Mineshaft in particular and I used to have a 77' issue of Drummer mag tht featured the club ( bear-centric article, tragically lost). I just think it's Neat 🐻
