his this is arcee again who are ur gundam faves
OH i missed this! hi! kind of basic but my favorites were sayla and amuro :>
i love how much of a closed book sayla is. i love that she starts the show a great shot and ends it a preternatural shot. i love that she spends the whole show lying to everyone and never actually tells anyone the truth shes been concealing even as she grows to trust the rest of the crew with her life. i love how resentful of a comms officer she was and every time she gave bright a stinkeye for not letting her read topsecret messages.
i was talking earlier today - i love how much getting to be a pilot and exercise her own judgement and have looser objectives suited her wayyy better, and the way that acts in contrast to amuros own struggles with agency and being a gundam pilot... its fun bc it makes me think about how miserable the situation is with amuro becoming a pilot. augh.
amuro is my favorite because he is my baby and i care him. i really enjoy how thoughtful and earnest and sincere he can be. he has some lines that are still stuck in my head--"im a civilian, too" and "maybe these children will grow up in a world where neother the federation nor zeon matter" come to mind immediately. i love how horrible and tragic it feels to me that hes a pilot at all... strength at a cost... i like him :(
kai is rly good also, shout out to kai. its a testament to the strength of gundams subtle character writing and/or the strength of my imagination that i can really clearly picture the broad strokes of kai's childhood off of almost zero information. (he is an older brother and his parents were not great. this is clear.)
anyway thanks for asking and sorry it took so long for me to realize the question was in here!
how do u feel about Newtypes
i feel like i had an interesting like. journey. with newtypes. i think even early in the show, we were like oh i get it. theyre psychic. about char and then amuro. and that perception was strengthened over time... i remember us being like 'oh their fucking weird dueling rivalry' during some of the fighting in the tunnels in jaburo for sure? so like the idea that there were people with psychic powers was not Shocking when lalah got introduced.
i really wasnt sure at all where they were going with it for large swathes of the end, though! i still dont feel like i have entirely comprehended everything that happened psychically; i got a lot of it for sure! i do feel like the just overwhelming feeling of the visuals and the soundscape, especially in some of those last scenes with lalah, was a HUGE strength and the execution there was phenomenal. i can still see in my minds eye the like lovingly rended gray ocean growing choppy and foamy and coming to mountainous waves on either side of the single bright star-bird of lalah's dress... just monumentous.
idk im still rotating some stuff in my mind. realism versus the fantastical... realism Intertwined with the fantastical... i really do think i will need/want to rewatch at Least large swathes of gundam 0079.
oh one thing that was really funny abt watching the end of gundam having been completely assuming the entire time that char was psychic was how much we kept being like wait okay what?? is he not supposed to be obviously psychic??? are we supposed to believe he doesnt know hes psychic??? i thought he was clearly psychic??? what???
where does rinne fall in the taxonomy of char clones
i dont know enough about char clones to really say yet. ive basically just seen char. and i havent seen all of him yet bc i know he shows up as countess boochie flagrante in zeta gundam and then also he has a movie or something. maybe ill reread the enstars april fools story tho
