So my flash drive that I bought earlier this year is now write protected due to possible data corruption. Given that, even though it was fast, it did run very hot, and that seems like a classic case of planned obsolescence. How can I sue Western digital?

When a flash drive runs too hot it deteriorates fast. Most of the fast ones need good cooling. And avoid having it in bright sunshine or other hot environments. They are rated often just about 40 degrees, so in your climate that's tight?
