I find the last retro EXTREMELY interesting too
(I am on mnho's side too) BUT! Ironically I didn’t finish reading ftn yet I needed to take a break because of... well 😭 him 😭😭😭 I find him extremely relatable as funny as that sounds 😭😭😭
Am I a witch who accidently mated with a werewolf? No :P but! I come from a reallyyyyy similar background
See minorities with huge generational traumas and fresh memories of abuse produce a lot of individuals like him 🥲 disconnected from their feelings, extremely closed up, hyper independent, they struggle to ask for help, they appear to be cold, they link their self worth to their strength, AND they measure their strength by how well they can stand pain without showing they're hurting etc
So! Do I hate him? NO WAY I HELL HOW COULD I?! I ADORE HIM!
Was I able to watch him self destruct for multiple chapters without taking breaks? No 😭
Do I excuse his actions? Yes cause I understand him on a deep level
Do I excuse the pack's actions? NO!
BUT! well ftn is a story about healing and connecting with others and with oneself so as a reader I'd say that I advise my fellow readers to approach all the characters and their rules in the story with empty :] and to look at the bigger picture :] everyone in ftn has a lot of burdens, responsibilities, and healing to do
And as a person who likes to write I'd say I don't see the clashing morals as a plot device the same way you guys do :] especially in ftn
It's not about picking sides, it's more about showing 2 sides of the same story
We get to know the characters better as we progress with the plot and we get to know the whys of their actions and mentalities
And we get to accept them and watch them grow
And really I personally believe that ftn is all about this
Getting over differences, connecting, healing, and love
So again to everyone please be gentle with the traumatised kitten 😭 People like him do exist 😭 and he wasn't the only one to mess up in ftn
He just needs some love 🥲
So please love my poor little traumatised guy 🥲🥲🥲
This was long af I apologise 😭
It's always an interesting discussion, and every time it's brought up, something new gets added to the table, making everything even more interesting. And, yeah, can't really blame you for needing breaks from the story because of Minho himself - he's lovely, but even writing him can sometimes get infuriating because we just want him to heal, but he hasn't been ready for that until recently. Also, you're so on point about him, his heritage, and generational trauma. Personally, I think that if you relate to him or understand where Minho comes from it's difficult to truly and fully hate him without at least feeling sympathy for him. Of course, it doesn't excuse anything (both from the pack and Minho himself) but it does offer explanations.
Honestly, the clashing morals aspect of FTN is one we really struggled with because when we threw it on the poll, we expected it to lose, but it didn't and we got a bit scared about that. We didn't want to disappoint and clashing morals is kind of difficult to write without portraying antagonistic traits in everyone (and we're writing kpop fanfic here so if we cross the line and make someone too unlikeable the chances of death threats getting shipped to our door increases - it can be terrifying out here). So, yeah, we do view the clashing morals as more of a plot device because we wanted it to be an integral part of the story and to carry a lot of the plot/conflict.
Also, very much agree with you on your interpretation of what FTN is about!! Couldn't have put it better ourselves, it really is about showing 2 sides of the same story! Everyone needs to be shown some love and some grace here, especially our little traumatized guy😭💖
