i’ve recently watched oda sa wala (ode to nothing). it’s a filipino indie film about a woman who’s runs a morgue barely keeping it afloat financially all the while trying to survive on a daily, fighting the feeling of loneliness and isolation in the old and dingy spanish era house surrounded by death all the time and grief for the loss of her mother with his father’s presence barely being there in her life. a corpse of an old lady was dropped into her funeral home one day and as a sign of good luck out of superstition. she keeps it by her side. literally. you’d see why it’s called ode to nothing while the film goes on. the gallow’s humor being sprinkled on it with the brilliance of the actress made the film so interesting to me. it’s available for free with subtitles on youtube if you want to check it out.
